Minimal environmental impact

card illustration

A pre-construction assessment

Before construction began, the site underwent a mandatory Environmental & Social Impact Assessment (EIA) developed by expert professionals. This assessment studied geology, hydrology, flora, fauna among other components, to gauge how mining activities might affect the environment and in order to define prevention and mitigation action plans covering the lifetime of the mine. The findings indicated minimal impact on flora and fauna due to the low density of vegetation in the area. This study is repeated every two years.
Local animal species, like vicuñas and guanacos, adapt to seasonal changes in search of water and food. During summer, they migrate to higher altitudes, while in winter, they move to lower altitudes to avoid the cold.
To prevent and minimize potential impacts, Eramine conducts environmental monitoring four times a year at designated points near the project area, as mandated by the regulatory authority. This monitoring assesses the state of biodiversity, microbiology, and air quality, among other factors. All these studies confirm that the project has not resulted in any significant impact or alteration to the established baseline conditions.
