A team effort in remote terrain
In addition to its proximity to the deposit, the plant site was chosen following an in-depth feasibility study that took into account a number of crucial parameters.
Starting in November 2021, the construction effort mobilized a sizable and experienced workforce, with an average of 2,517 individuals working on constructing the plant facilities, not to mention the personnel involved in setting up the camp.
To overcome the often harsh environmental challenges, Eramet employed innovative design solutions, emphasizing the use of large concrete and structural steel structures built to comply with design regulations. The relentless winds and frequent thunderstorms typical of this mountainous region necessitated the implementation of an alert system to manage the pace of construction.
This system provides real-time guidance to the workforce, indicating which tasks can proceed safely during extreme weather conditions, thus minimizing downtime. This system is one of many helping to carve out a path forward in this harsh area.
